About this Role
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is hiring a Senior Protection Officer in Kyegegwa, Uganda to lead and strengthen protection programs in refugee-hosting communities.
This role focuses on delivering high-impact humanitarian interventions, supporting vulnerable populations, and coordinating multi-sector responses across protection, health, and emergency programs. You will play a leadership role in ensuring effective program implementation in Kyegegwa and surrounding areas.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Management
- Develop and implement protection work plans and project strategies
- Manage budgets and ensure compliance with donor requirements
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports
- Maintain accurate protection data and documentation
Team Leadership & Technical Support
- Supervise and mentor Protection Officers and partner teams
- Provide technical guidance on protection programming (GBV, child protection, case management)
- Identify staff training needs and support capacity building
- Ensure adherence to IRC standards and policies
Coordination & Representation
- Coordinate with partners, government, UN agencies, and NGOs
- Represent IRC in coordination meetings and advocacy forums
- Strengthen partnerships with community stakeholders
- Support integrated programming across sectors
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Law, Social Work, Sociology, Humanities, or related field
- 5โ7 years experience in protection programming or humanitarian work
- Experience working with refugees and vulnerable communities
- Strong leadership, coordination, and reporting skills
- Knowledge of protection principles and safeguarding standards
- Ability to manage teams and work in complex field environments
