Communications Officer – East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP)


    About EACOP

    The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) is responsible for constructing and operating the 1,443-kilometre crude oil export pipeline connecting Kabaale in Hoima District, Uganda, to the Port of Tanga in Tanzania. The project plays a vital role in regional economic development through infrastructure investment, employment creation, technology transfer, and sustainable energy development.

    Job Summary

    The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) is seeking a highly motivated Communications Officer to coordinate and implement strategic communications, media relations, stakeholder engagement, and public affairs activities. The successful candidate will help strengthen the company’s reputation, build stakeholder relationships, and increase awareness of EACOP’s projects among internal and external audiences.

    The Communications Officer will report to the Communications Lead and work closely with departments across the organization to ensure effective and consistent communication.

    Key Responsibilities

    Corporate Communications

    • Support the development and implementation of internal and external communication strategies.
    • Manage the Corporate Affairs events calendar, meeting minutes, and documentation.
    • Develop communication plans, campaigns, and editorial calendars.
    • Ensure all communication aligns with the company’s objectives and brand guidelines.

    Content Development

    • Create engaging content including news articles, blog posts, newsletters, social media content, photography, videos, and promotional materials.
    • Coordinate documentation of project activities through multimedia content.
    • Review and edit communication materials to ensure quality and consistency.

    Media Relations

    • Prepare and distribute press releases and media statements.
    • Respond to media inquiries with management approval.
    • Organize media briefings, interviews, press conferences, and project site visits.

    Stakeholder Engagement

    • Support community engagement programs and stakeholder meetings.
    • Coordinate project site visits for partners and stakeholders.
    • Collect stakeholder feedback and prepare engagement reports.
    • Respond to correspondence, inquiries, and communication requests from stakeholders.

    Events Management

    • Plan and coordinate corporate events, campaigns, community initiatives, and stakeholder engagement activities.
    • Ensure successful delivery of events that enhance the company’s visibility and public image.

    Digital Communications

    • Manage and grow the company’s digital communication platforms and social media channels.
    • Support intranet management and digital communication initiatives.
    • Develop digital campaigns and monitor their performance.
    • Promote the effective use of digital communication tools across the organization.

    Qualifications

    Applicants should possess:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in corporate communications, public relations, stakeholder engagement, or a similar role.
    • Demonstrated experience in communication planning, campaign management, and media relations.
    • Proven experience in content creation, publication management, and multimedia production.
    • Experience organizing corporate events and managing communication agencies.
    • Experience in the oil and gas, infrastructure, energy, or related sectors is an added advantage.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong media writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
    • Knowledge of communication strategies, digital media, and social media management.
    • Strong planning, project management, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
    • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital communication tools.
    • Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.
    • Fluency in English is required.
    • Knowledge of Luganda, Runyoro, Runyankole, or other Ugandan local languages is an added advantage.
