Job Summary
The U.S. Embassy in Uganda is inviting applications from qualified and eligible candidates for the position of Custodian (Janitor) within the Facilities Management Section. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene across U.S. Mission office facilities and other U.S. Government-owned or leased properties, ensuring a clean, safe, and professional working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine cleaning of offices, buildings, and assigned facilities.
- Clean and maintain floors, offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.
- Properly use and maintain cleaning equipment and housekeeping materials.
- Ensure assigned work areas meet established cleanliness and hygiene standards.
- Identify and report maintenance issues or unsafe conditions.
- Follow health, safety, and environmental guidelines when handling cleaning chemicals.
- Safely operate cleaning tools and equipment.
- Support other custodial duties as assigned by the Custodian Foreman.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- Completion of Primary School.
- Minimum of six (6) months of custodial, housekeeping, or cleaning experience.
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, housekeeping materials, and cleaning equipment.
- Understanding of occupational health and safety procedures.
- Ability to safely handle cleaning chemicals and equipment.
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and supplies.
- Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
- Ability to stand, bend, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of fire safety equipment and safe working practices.
Language Requirements
- English: Basic speaking, reading, and writing skills.
- Luganda: Basic speaking, reading, and writing skills.
