About the Role
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is hiring a Protection Officer to support humanitarian response efforts across Arua, Adjumani, Kyegegwa, Kiryandongo, and Palabek in Uganda.
This NGO job in Uganda focuses on delivering life-saving protection services, supporting vulnerable populations, and ensuring access to critical services for refugees and host communities in these high-need areas.
You will be working directly in field locations within refugee settlements and host communities—this is not a desk-based role. The position requires strong coordination, adaptability, and commitment to humanitarian principles in dynamic and sometimes high-pressure environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct protection monitoring and identify risks affecting vulnerable populations
- Provide case management, referrals, and individual protection assistance
- Support implementation of protection programs including GBV and child protection
- Engage with refugees, asylum seekers, and host communities
- Coordinate with partners, government, and humanitarian actors
- Document case studies, reports, and field data
- Support awareness campaigns and community outreach
- Ensure confidentiality and safeguarding standards are maintained
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Law, Human Rights, or related field
- 3–5 years experience in protection programming or humanitarian work
- Experience working with refugees, displaced persons, or vulnerable groups
- Strong understanding of protection principles and safeguarding
- Excellent communication, reporting, and coordination skills
- Ability to work independently in field conditions
